Welcome to the Design & Technology Page
Design and Technology is taught in accordance with the National Curriculum. It is timetabled separately in each year group, but the programmes of study are linked, where possible, with science particularly in Years 6 and 7, and also occasionally with humanities, ICT and mathematics.
For part of each year the children will be taught in the purpose built workshop. The children will experience working with food, electrical circuiting, mechanisms and rigid materials on a rota basis.
They will be encouraged to develop their design and technology capability through problem solving and Design and Make activities. Continuous self-evaluation of their work is also an important element in this process.
The children are given experience in working with a wide range of materials, tools and equipment in order to increase their knowledge and understanding. Much is of a practical nature, though the design and graphic element is also of great importance.
Food technology is carried out in the year group areas, usually with the class teacher. The children are taught to use a range of tools correctly and shown how to work safely in a purpose built workshop.
