In years 5 and 6 pupils work to a daily literacy hour in English. Both year groups also have an extra hour per week to develop their creative writing. They study texts by various authors and produce a wide range of work including play scripts, stories, poetry and instructional and non-fictional writing.

Please encourage your child to read as much as possible and use both the library in school as well as the local library.

In year 7 and 8 pupils are given the opportunity to research topics, prepare and present oral presentations - this is an important aspect of the curriculum and something that will be used regularly at high school. They are introduced to a wide range of authors and genre and produce a variety of written work and assessments based on and around these texts.

Some assessments are word-processed and others are handwritten. This is to encourage pupils to take pride in their work and to produce a high standard of handwriting.
