Working together we will make a difference

                     Welcome to the French Page

In the current school timetable, KS2 are allocated one x 55 min. lesson per week, and KS3 are allocated 2 x 55 min. lesson per week.

The QCA Scheme of Work is broadly followed, although this has been revised in places to be more relevant to Kirkley Middle School.

Overall aims:

In KS2 the aim is to provide a positive beginning to the initial experience of learning French, and to create a progressive learning environment.

In KS3 we aim to further encourage positive attitudes to the learning of French and to develop ability, laying firm foundations for their High School language learning.

Across the school the aims are:

  • To encourage every child to be involved in and to take responsibility for their own progress

  • To help pupils develop techniques to be effective language learners

  • To encourage positive attitudes towards foreign language learning and to promote the desire and means to be successful in this

  • To develop an awareness of and tolerance for linguistic and cultural diversity

  • To provide intellectual stimulation and to promote general learning techniques

  • For pupils to enjoy and understand the relevance of learning a language
