Working together we will make a difference

                        Welcome to the History Page

History can fire pupils' curiosity about past Britain and the wider world. Pupils consider how the past influences the present, what past societies organised their politics and what beliefs and cultures influenced people's actions.

As they do this pupils develop a chronological awareness and a framework for their knowledge of significant events and people. They see the diversity of human experience and understand more about themselves as individuals and members of a society. Pupils use sources (e.g. artefacts, documents, books, videos, internet, and oral information) to find evidence, weigh it up and reach their own conclusions. Through research, discussion and role-play they learn to empathise and express their point of view based on this evidence.

The use of ICT in research, presentations and production of assignments is encouraged. The ICT suite is used as often as possible.

The department works to the targets set in the National Curriculum. The team is continually building resources and makes the lessons as varied as possible. Activities include a mix of listening and watching, writing and drawing. Pupils are encouraged to be actively involved and participate orally through expressing their opinions, presentations, role-play, and questioning.
